What is the natural prey of such a creature? To have such a big body, even if the creature is what we might consider to be invertebrate, it must eat gigantic things.

Also, what is the fighter holding? Something I've noticed with your pieces is that you seem to like atypical light sources. In landscape or broad picture scenes that are dark, I've never seen a torch and I like this *a lot*. Don't get me wrong, I love fire, but luminescent metals, spirit lamps, I love that stuff. I think it's really easy to forget how important light sources are for entities that do not deal well with the dark.

I'm also interested in why the creature itself is luminescent. I respect you too much to be trying to poke holes in this stuff, but I am sincerely curious.

What I imagine is that whatever is luminous about the hero's weapon is probably the same thing that is luminous about the centipede. Our hero is standing much confidently for this to have been an ambush, I assume s/he is there with the intent of winning, not running away. I imagine that s/he might be there to simply hunt, in a sense. To kill the monster to harvest whatever it is that makes it glow, that can be forged into weapons, lamps, whatever.

for a creature of this size and magnitude its origins are definitely not natural,
" there had been a mage long ago whom specialized in the synthesis of powerful creature and familiars, the mage travelled to this particular area where the earth contained minerals embedded with rare magical properties in order to further his experiments and research. There he found very small type centipedes lived in underground tunnels that devoured the mineral's magical energy and processed it with so much efficiency it does not expel any form of waste material. He had the idea to capture these creatures and use them to harvest the magic in the earth, he performed alternations to one of the creatures, improved their ability to sense magic and the efficiency to devour the magic in the earth and used it to harvest the magic for his research. The small centipede grown and mutated signifigantly as it devoured more magic and could process them with much more efficiency than before, when it had grown too powerful too quickly for the mage to realize it broke free of control and consumed the mage because it sensed the amount of magical energy the mage held within his body. After many years it had escaped and fed on the magical energy contained in the earth and grown to massive size. It literally contained so much energy that it leaked through opening in its exoskeleton, it has no purpose but to devour any source of magical energy it recognizes. Any piece of its body contained immense amounts of energy and would be invaluable as a material for magical weapons and any other device, its core would provide near infinite amounts of magical energy, its existance was easily confirmed because it had attacked and devoured every single mage and magical object that had gotten near its habitat. "

i kinda cheated with the lightsource, but you could say the creature lights up the tunnel, I'd imagine that the weapon the guy is using has some sort of
anti-magic ability, using anything magical or being a mage would make it the creature very sensitive to his position and get killed instantly since if it lives underground it would have to rely on sense other than sight.

it wasn't suppose to emit light the way the creature evolved and developed before it was modified.

hope this gives more insight into its design xD

I like it. It reminds me of the titular boss from the first Metroid Prime.
It looks like it could have hundreds, if not thousands, of legs.
I think that after around 10 pairs of legs, such a creature should just have tail-length left--too many legs seems unnecessary.
...
It's great.
